It didn't matter which quarterback the Denver Broncos threw out there Sunday. The surging San Diego Chargers bottled up both the rusty Chris Simms and the hobbled Kyle Orton. Philip Rivers and a dominant defense led the Chargers into sole possession of first place in the AFC West with a 32-3 drubbing of the Denver Broncos, who couldn't move the ball effectively behind either QB Sunday.

The doubters lined up to chastise Brett Favre for ending a second retirement to play for the Minnesota Vikings. One by one, they have been silenced by the 40-year-old's incredible 10-game start in purple. The most efficient performance of his career may have removed the remaining doubt that he still had.

The unbeaten Indianapolis Colts sidestepped another potential obstacle in their march toward NFL history. The Colts kept Baltimore out of the end zone Sunday and got the go-ahead field goal from former Ravens kicker Matt Stover in a 17-15 victory, their 19th straight win over two seasons. Indianapolis (10-0) overcame three turnovers, including two interceptions by Peyton Manning.

Before the season even started, the Oakland Raiders picked this week's game to dedicate to Marquis Cooper, their former special teams star who died in a boating accident this year. With Cooper's family watching, it was only fitting that it was the type of special teams play Cooper took so much pride in that decided this game.

For the second straight game, the New England Patriots led 31-14 in the fourth quarter. This time they completed the job. The defense that Bill Belichick didn't want to put on the field a week earlier had three of its five turnovers in the fourth quarter Sunday in a 31-14 win over the New York Jets.

Before and after every snap, Tony Romo felt the throbbing in his back, the result of an accidental blow suffered while making a first-quarter tackle, of all things. While he could block out the pain during most plays, he couldn't stop it from affecting his throws -- at least, not until the game was on the line.
