When Northwestern senior cornerback Sherrick McManis stole an Illinois pass with 32 seconds left on Saturday, he ensured the Wildcats' second straight bowl berth and clinched the program's third consecutive .500 or better season.

While those statistics might not sound like much when compared to other schools in the Big Ten and around the country, they carry a lot of weight in Evanston. For example, this marks just the second time Northwestern gets to cap back-to-back seasons with a bowl (the first was when head coach Pat Fitzgerald played middle linebacker for the 'Cats in 1995-96).

As for the three straight non-losing seasons? That hasn't happened since 1958-1960 when Ara Parseghian ran the program.
