With all the discussion centering on LSU's mismanagement of the clock in its 25-23 loss to Ole Miss, it might be wise to take a couple of steps back and examine more closely the Tigers' play-calling on their final drive
After reaching the Ole Miss 32-yard line on a 26-yard screen pass to Brandon LaFell with just over a minute left, the Tigers already were within range for a legitimate field goal try that could have won it. Josh Jasper had booted a 50-yarder in the same direction earlier in the day.
But instead of going with running plays that might have inched the ball even closer, the Tigers threw the ball on first down. It was incomplete. On second down, Jordan Jefferson was sacked for a 9-yard loss. ...More |
