Sophomore tailback Darrell Scott, the biggest recruiting prize in coach Dan Hawkins' four-year tenure at Colorado, is leaving the program after 1 1/2 season filled with injuries and frustration. The ongoing problems that leave Colorado facing the distinct possibility of missing out on the postseason must be attributed to fourth-year coach Dan Hawkins.
He was charged with establishing discipline and order in what had become an unruly program. He did restore the Buffaloes' character, but the win-loss totals that eventually reflect the most on every coach satisfy no one, including Hawkins.
The coach stands just 15-30 overall while fielding a team this season that is 2-6 overall and 1-3 in the Big 12 entering a Nov. 7 home game against Texas A&M.
