The Zips followed a familiar pattern against Bowling Green. Akron jumped out to a 10-9 halftime lead before Bowling Green stormed back with 27 second-half points to post a 36-20 victory.

The Zips, 2-9 and 1-6 in the MAC East Division, followed their game plan in the first half. Akron used a two tight-end set to run the ball and control the clock, keeping the ball away from Bowling Green quarterback Tyler Sheehan and wide receiver Freddie Barnes. Akron had 151 yards rushing in the first half and led 10-7 midway through the second quarter after Patrick Nicely found Jeremy Bruce for a 10-yard touchdown.

In the first half, Sheehan failed to throw a touchdown and Barnes, the nation's leading receiver, was held to four catches for 69 yards.

Tyler Sheehan had a record-setting day, throwing for 338 yards and two touchdowns, to lead Bowling Green to a 36-20 victory over Akron on Friday night. Trailing 10-9, Sheehan threw scoring passes of 4 and 15 yards to Freddie Barnes to put the Falcons (6-5, 5-2 Mid-American Conference) ahead for good with 4:28 left in the third quarter.

Temple tops Akron, 56-17, for eighth straight win (AP)

Chester Stewart threw two touchdown passes Friday night and ran for two scores to lead Temple to a 56-17 victory over Akron that kept the Owls on track for a spot in the Mid-American Conference championship game. The Owls (8-2, 6-0), winners of eight straight, have their best record since going 10-2 in 1979, when they made their last bowl appearance.
